City on a Hill, White 2019

Flag of South Africa

André Bruyns started making wine under his own City on a Hill label in 2015, taking the name from the undulating region of The Paardeberg (Horse Mountain), which divides the Paarl and Swartland. Wanting his wines to be very specific to their site and soil type, he practises both organic and biodynamic farming. The granitic soils enhance the stony/mineral attributes of the grapes, giving rise to his signature focused & linear style. White 2019 is made from a blend of 88% Chenin Blanc, 8% Viognier and 4% Muscat of Alexandria. Brilliant lemon in the glass, with aromas of white blossoms, cut apple, stone fruit and a gentle minerality on the nose. The palate is wonderfully balanced, with a bright acidity and creamy texture against a backdrop of ripe apple and peach. The finish has a slight savoury-saline edge and long finish; drinking well now but with the potential to develop further.
